Legacy Tree Project

The two artists behind Norman's North Wind Studio have developed a wonderful vision to turn historic storm-damaged trees in Norman's public parks into publicly accessible sculpture. The Cottonwood Arts Foundation is committed to help them fund their plan to carve, preserve, and maintain each of these trees, a project for which the City of Norman Parks Department has already granted permission.

Ethan Elgersma, the artist who will carve the legacy trees, carries local patron Tiana's Colorado Buffalo to her car.

This 'Ralphie' was carved from the storm-damaged sycamore in Lions Park.

We've had to put this one on the shelf.  The tree at Lions has sprouted new growth and North Wind is going through a major restructuring.  Working with Parks and attempting to solve the problem of what to do with the trees after this Spring's rains damaged them significantly.
